The purpose of the lesson is for students to be able to explain why people have different opinions on a particular topic.
First, the teacher will begin by introducing a social issue for the students to discuss, such as a controversial news topic. After offering a brief overview of the issue and explaining the different perspectives, the teacher will ask the students to break into groups so they can consider their own opinion on the subject. For example, they may be asked to consider the pros and cons of the issue, or discuss how it affects them, their family, or their community.
After the discussion, each group will then reconvene to share their thoughts and reflections. The teacher will then facilitate a class discussion, offering the students new perspectives and helping them form their own opinions about the social issue.
The teacher may also assign an essay for the students to complete which requires them to give examples and support their idea on the current social issue.
Finally, the students will be asked to discuss their opinions in a whole-class setting. The teacher will also ask the students to explain and justify their opinions. Through this process, the students will be able to understand the various perspectives held by their classmates, and how to thoughtfully evaluate a topic.
The lesson will end with a brief reflection to summarize the learning points discussed during the lesson and encourage the students to apply their understanding of the topic to their everyday lives.
